I received my journalism degree back in 2000 from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. (Go Dawgs!)
I’m the author of Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body. Written from a Catholic-Christian perspective, it’s my hope that this book will help to reshape the way women look at their bodies and appearance. It also serves to debunk some of the myths and false truths perpetuated by our culture (e.g., “Look thinner or younger, and you’ll be better because you’re simply not good enough just being you!”) Some of the topics covered include applying temperance as related to food, aging, an exploration of how motherhood changes the way women see their bodies, raising healthy daughters, and the media’s influence on body image compared to what the Christian faith teaches us about our appearance and our bodies. I suffered from a clinical eating disorder and sprinkle personal anecdotes into the book. There’s a “Soul Food” section as well that provides readers with inspiring quotes from Scripture and the saints as well as spiritual and practical tools and tips that serve to encourage, edify, and help women overcome their own struggles with body image, their appearance, food, aging, etc. Each chapter concludes with a meditation and prayer. Jennifer Fulwiler of Conversion Diary wrote its foreword.
I’ve also contributed to myriad regional and national publications and websites, including: Atlanta Parent, Canticle, Catholic Exchange, Catholic Mom, Children’s Ministry Magazine, Family Fun, Fathers for Good, Inside Catholic/Crisis magazine, Medical Dealer Magazine, Pregnancy magazine, Woman’s Day, Writer’s Weekly, Pittsburgh Parent, and Catholic News Agency.
I also contributed to The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body, and Soul by Lisa Hendey.
