Maine Photos

As previously mentioned, here are some photos from our trip to Maine.

A view of Camp Loseekum, where we stayed, from a boat out on Lake Thompson

As GG (Dave’s grandmother and our girls’ great grandmother) has been known to say, “Dog kisses are an acquired taste.” Clearly, Madeline doesn’t have much of a distinguished palate – at least when it comes to slobbery kisses from Sasha, GG’s dog.

Our wilderness girl has caught a wily grasshopper in a small glass and is showing the photographer (Daddy) the plunder.

Babies don’t keep, so even a dislocated shoulder can’t keep Nana (Dave’s mom) from rocking Rachel Marie.

Rub-a-dub-dub. It’s bath time at camp. Dave’s using a portable shower we bought from REI. You fill a black bag with water and leave it in the sun to heat up for a fairly warm shower. Pretty nifty.

Mommy and Baby Rae

One of Madeline’s many “special treats” she savored during vacation. This push-up pop was from who else but Pop (Dave’s dad).

Super Mom! Yes, I am nursing a life-jacket-wearing Rachel Marie on a boat in the middle of the lake.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
