Cast Your Votes!

No, I’m not talking about the heated race for the office of President of the United States, though we all ought to be praying for the political candidates and discerning whom we should vote for in the primaries and come November.

Still, the ballot I’m referring to here does require some earnest deliberation, if you ask me. It’s time to vote for the 2008 Catholic Blog Awards. The deadline for voting is noon CST on March 17.

And for the kind, generous soul(s) who overlooked my mommy brain moments (i.e., occasional typos, weird and mombie-induced ramblings, potty humor, etc.) and nominated my blog, thank you, thank you, thank you! I am honored, humbled and encouraged. As a friend and fellow Catholic mom reinforced, “Think of this as God’s way of cheering you on and throwing you a little grace to keep you motivated.”

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

“She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.”

―Flannery O'Connor
