Mommy For Hire
This is my latest column over at Catholic Mom. If you’ve been a regular reader to my blog, you’ve probably seen a version of this essay. The gist is that I should not only fess up to being a full-time mom when people ask me, “What do you do?” but I should be humbled and proud that God has “hired” me for this challenging but extremely rewarding job.

Silencing Cookie Monster
Here I take a look at struggles over food choices and how our energy would be much better spent if we simply savored small indulgences and devoted time to praying or other worthwhile activities instead of over analyzing every little thing we eat and feeling guilty when we give in to our cravings.

From one geek to another (though I suspect we’re different KINDS of geeks, because I do NOT think cooking is fun, though I like to eat and I’ll come on over to enjoy YOUR cooking…:):

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
