    Hi Kate,

I enjoyed reading your article. I found myself nodding in agreement quite often!

I am in the middle of potty training the twins(3 yr). Whew! The girl was very resistant to going at all for months, and then all of a sudden one day a few weeks ago she just decided she was going to go and she did from then on, at least during the day. The boy has been going in the potty for quite a while now, except for pooping. He has this habit of pooping while he is sleeping, and I don’t know how to work on that. It sure is interesting how they are all a little bit different!

    Have a great weekend,
    Janet

Kate, thanks for this. You said everything I feel about this whole mom thing.

Sending you big hugs, hot tea, and some baby drool on top. :)

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
