Counting My Blessings

Today I took ten minutes out of my day to count my many blessings.

Here’s a look at the blessings that came to mind during my gratitude exercise (listed not necessarily in order of importance but in the order they popped into my head):

  • My family (immediate and extended)
  • My healthy baby growing inside of me
  • My kids’ giggles
  • My faith
  • My family’s good health
  • Hot tea with honey and milk
  • My hard-working, witty, and handsome hubby
  • My friends
  • The fact that my pregnancy-induced nausea seems to be abating somewhat. I only hurled a few times this week – yippie!
  • The baby’s subtle jabs in utero.
  • Broccoli casserole (I’m not much of a turkey/gravy girl, but I love the side dishes.)
  • Good books to read
  • My legs (they’ve always been my fave body part, and I’m thankful I have two strong legs that can chase after energetic toddlers and preschoolers.)
  • My fertility
  • Dogs
  • Sunshine
  • Rain
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Being American
  • Date nights with my husband
  • Family outings
  • We only have 2 1/2 more years of residency/fellowship training – this calls for another yippie!
  • Silly, sappy lists
  • Netflix
  • My minivan and its profusion of cup holders and automatic sliding doors
  • Chocolate, especially of the dark variety
  • Cute shoes
  • The Advent season (it begins this Sunday!)
  • Nursing my babies
  • My Ergo carrier
  • Rae’s dimple on the right side of her mouth
  • My husband’s matching dimple, also on the right side of his mouth
  • Madeline’s birthmark on her bottom
  • Water
  • Granola
  • Fruit
  • Spinach and feta quiche
  • Beautiful weather
  • Exercise
  • Living close to the grandparents
  • Tide-to-Go Pens
  • Silly words that make my kids laugh like goober, beanie, and pumpernickel

Time’s up. Happy Thanksgiving!

What a great list! We certainly are blessed, aren’t we?

Hi Kate! Love your list…I share so many of your blessings, including your friendship and our Catholic blogger community.

Oh, I tagged you for a book meme…just for fun?

    Hugs

Great list. Yeah, let’s hear it for the automatic sliding doors and cup holders.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
