We’re proud to announce the newest addition to our family. We welcomed a beautiful blue fish to our family recently. Our little guy answers to the name Isabelle. Yes, our feisty Siamese Fighting Fish (AKA Betta) is a “he,” but he seems completely comfortable with his masculinity and doesn’t seem too offended by his girly name (I did suggest that we call him Izzy for short).
In fact, he’s been quite industrious since he came into our home and has made a large, frothy bubble nest, which apparently means he’s quite happy with his new digs. If only he had a lady friend to stop by and check out his pad and spoon…I mean, spawn with him.
Our only hope is that Izzy truly is a “fighting fish” since we’ve lost so many fishy friends in the past. First we had the sickly goldfish: Birdy, Golden, Birdy II.
Then we brought home a family of Neon Tetras (Sam, Leaf, Flower, and Star) that fared well for a few months until one by one they slowly succumbed to Pleistophora (AKA Neon Tetra Disease; my husband did his homework and did all he could to save them, but alas, their time had come).
Madeline has been a real trouper through it all. “If they die, we can always get a new one.” That’s right, kiddo, death be not proud! Still, we’re hoping Izzy sticks around for awhile.
He’s a pretty fellow, don’t you think?

I had a very wimpy sickly Beta fish named Kevin. He did not have beautiful fins like Izzy, he never made bubble nests. And he lived for over 2 years. So, if Kevin can make it, Izzy most certainly can!

Yes, very pretty! And you know Isabelle is a favorite name of mine. It is probably the male version too… my daughter is IsabellA. ;)

The only pet I've had to call my own was my betta fish, Aristophenes (can you tell I had just finished theater history?). He lasted over a year, so that was pretty hardy for a fish.
Good luck with Izzy!
