A Light Blogging Week

Gaba (my mom who’s pictured above with M.E.) is going to be staying with us over the next few days, so I’ll be going on a blogging diet and won’t be around much. She’s partially coming to watch the kiddos, so I can get my teeth cleaned. Ugh. I do not share Madeline’s enthusiasm for the dentist. But the real reason for her extended visit (she only lives an hour away) is to squeeze in some extra time with her grandkids and to scoop them up in her arms while she still can.

On August 10th my mom, who is as brave as she is beautiful, is undergoing major back surgery. Her expected recovery time is anywhere between four and six months. As always, her inner Pollyanna is shining through, and she remains optimistic about her impending procedure and the expected results. Still, she could always use a few extra prayers.

I’ll be back in a few…

Does your mom ever age??? She looks just like she did when we were in high school! Beautiful!

I will be praying for her speedy recovery.

I love this picture of your mom, Kate; it's a keeper.

(And speaking of photos, I owe you a couple. Haven't forgotten. Not too worry.)

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
