Signs of Spring

Big sisters in sundresses pushing little sisters in strollers

Little girls on swings

Naked piggies

Turtles sunning on logs

Canadian geese returning to the pond

Flowers blooming

Just when you think the cold, long days are interminable, it happens: The last sigh of winter, and the air becomes warmer. A gentle breeze replaces the cutting wind. The ground softens, and you begin to notice the subtle greening of the earth and the animals suddenly spry. Flower buds emerge from the ground that was dead, and they hold the promise of what’s to come. You accept that to everything there is a season, but you can’t help but be grateful for the optimism of the spring.

Here comes the sun.

Springtime has never felt so wonderful.

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
