Let’s Talk

On Thursday I had the honor of chatting with Danielle Bean and Elizabeth Foss on the Faith & Family LIVE! podcast. We discussed making friends, and I confessed my own insecurities and hangups about meeting new friends in my new community. I didn’t mention too much that a big part of the reason I haven’t really connected with too many folks here yet is my own laziness. We’ve just been so busy in the mornings with our homeschooling and homemaking routine and by the time the afternoon rolls around, I’m beginning to putter about rather than go full-steam ahead as I used to do. Sometimes it’s easier to just stay put at home. But I do need to make more of an effort. Yes, my schedule is busy, but it’s only going to get busier.

We also shared ideas about how to commemorate our children’s birthdays in simple but meaningful ways. I gleaned plenty of tips both on cultivating new friendships and celebrating birthdays from Danielle and Elizabeth. Won’t you join us in the conversation?

Speaking of birthdays, we’re officially celebrating Mary Elizabeth’s special day today with family today. Stay tuned for details some time next week.

Have a great weekend!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
