Punchline Killer

Daughter: Mommy, I have a knock, knock joke for you.

Me: Okay. What is it?

Daughter: Knock, knock.

Me: Who’s there?

Daughter: Oh, I have to go poop.

Me: Is that the joke?

Daughter, sprinting the nearest bathroom: No…

(It seemed fitting to kick off this new chapter in my blogging life with an anecdote about pooping.)

Oh my! That is hilarious!! SO glad you decided to share. Having been up for countless nights with my little one who has pneumonia I am so exhausted and really needed a laugh as I start my day!! Thanks! :)

I love the new look and the knock-knock is even better. Best wishes with the new improved blog. I’m looking forward to the book, especially since the evangelicals have had body image books around for a while. A catholic take on this is so very needed.

And that is why I love your site sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry and sometimes I laugh until I cry… like today.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
