{this moment}

They bicker plenty, but they love a whole lot, too.

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you’re inspired to do the same, visit Soulemama to leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see.

***I really, really wanted to share a precious moment I captured on film of my husband sleeping with sweet Mary Elizabeth the other night. I thought it would be the perfect photo to showcase just before Father’s Day weekend. However, I knew I needed to ask my very private husband before I put it out there. He loved the photo, but he didn’t want it exposed to the world. You’ll have to use your imagination on just how beautiful it was to have a still life of the man you love like crazy sleeping with your youngest child curled up next to him. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there – including the ones who never get blogged about! :-)

    I sympathize with you on your “unshared” photo moment. Maybe you can frame it for your home–maybe in your daughter’s room…

    What a perfectly sunny group shot of your girls!

    Kate, what a sweet thought even though you can’t share it. You’ve painted the picture of what we would have seen and that’s a gift in and of itself. Enjoy your weekend with Daddy/Hubby!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
