What I’m Pondering Today…

…and given my recent “restricted activity/modified bedrest” (or whatever you want to call it) mandate, I’ve ample time to ponder.

“Our body is a cenacle, a monstrance; through its crystal the world should see God.”

~Saint Gianna Molla

Oh that’s beautiful! I love ST Gianna. A great saint to accompany you through the end of your pregnancy.

Melanie, I haven’t been able to track down the primary source for the quote yet, but I saw that a reader on your blog thought she knew what book it originally appeared in. I’ll keep you posted if I learn anything further.

(And thank you, thank you, thank you for your 8:15 prayer on our family’s behalf. Oh, how it blesses us!)

Thanks, Kate. I hope I can eventually find an affordable copy of that book. I’d love to read her letters.

And you are more than welcome for the prayers. I wish I lived close enough that I could come by and our kids could play together while we chatted.

Very deep and worthy of being reflected upon. Our body is a vessel by which we should carry the wonderful acts and gifts of God. :)

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

“She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.”
