Writing Elsewhere

You can read my latest column at Fathers for Good: The Home-Cooked Advantage – 5 Steps to a Happy Meal at Home. The article features Fr. Leo of Grace Before Meals (you know, the priest-chef who dueled it out with Bobby Flay on the Food Network and won!).

I’m also honored to have a guest post over at “Dialogue,” a blog where writers (including bloggers!) are invited to share ideas, tips, news, market leads, and more. Patricia Punt founded the the site, and I have to tell you how wonderful she is. I met her several years ago at the online Catholic Writers Conference. I signed up to take her online class on writing devotionals. Her instruction and wisdom were very valuable, and I still hope to carve out some more time one of these days to purse the devotional market. But it wasn’t just a professional relationship that took root after I completed her online workshop. Through various email exchanges we connected on a spiritual and emotional level and became friends. Since that time Patricia has always been extremely supportive of my writing and been a faithful friend who offers her prayers for my family and sends me kind emails out of the blue. I’m very thankful for our friendship.

At any rate, my guest post is called From Blog to Book Deal and offers some tips for bloggers who may not have published anything outside of their posts on how to possibly catch the eye of an editor or a publisher.

See you over at Fathers for Good and “Dialogue”!

Kate, thank you for your kind words … they actually made me tear up. I am so happy to have met you and your family. You and your writing serve as a model of inspiration to all of us who read your words. I hear-by nominate myself the President of the Kate Wicker Fan Club. You’re the best!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

―Flannery O'Connor
