Everybody’s sick around here

Even my 2-year-old’s baby doll.

Fortunately, the baby and the girls only have some sniffles and congestion. This doll seems to be in for a worse fate. The Black Death perhaps?

Those are actually globs of black Play-doh. My 2-year-old is normally a very attentive mommy, but she has recently taken up a new pastime of plastering Play-Doh to all sorts of things. Giving her free reign with the stuff is definitely a trade off. It keeps her busy for a long time, but the cleanup keeps me busy for a long time, too.

Oh no! Poor baby…yes, I would definitely say that looks like black plague to me. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. We had three weeks worth of family sickness and it was not easy or fun. Love your blog, by the way and I’m finally commenting :) You’re an awesome mom.

Goodness gracious! Have you asked your 2 year old what the symptoms and diagnosis are? That ought to make for a good story. Plastering Play-doh everywhere sounds like a great deal of fun, though, the clean-up would be rather time-consuming. Maybe I’ll have a Play-doh plastering session as a reward for getting some sorting/organizing, and cleaning done around out place. It would certainly surprise my husband–both the cleaning and my reward of choice:)

Check out Rachel’s picture of Isabel’s doll on Testosterhome! Hilarious in the same vein!

My daughter is into plastering everything with tin foil. And I have to be careful not to throw the tin foil balls away, because there might be something *inside* it!

I’m sorry to hear y’all are all sick too. We’re on day seven of coughs and fevers runny noses. Hope all the Wickers get better soon. And that poor dolly… hope she recovers before someone else gets whatever that is.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
