Get yourself some momnipotence

I am super thrilled to be a part of Momnipotent, Danielle Bean’s 8-week study designed for mothers of all ages and in all walks of life. Please consider bringing this program to your parish. Moms need to know they’re not alone. They need to be encouraged. They need to recognize their dignity and worth and that their job and all those seemingly menial tasks like high chair crud removal and clutter-patrol have a greater purpose.

I’m just a little excited about this project. Why? Because I love being a mother, but I’ve also found it to be one of the most difficult and isolating endeavors I’ve ever embarked upon.

Learn more about the 8-week study here, and the official trailer is below. See if you can find me. It’s quite fun to show it to my kids. “There’s Mommy!” they shout as soon as my face pops onto the screen. I’m sure you’ll have just as much fun, screeching, “There’s Kate Wicker!”

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

“She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.”

―Flannery O'Connor
