Taking Candy from the Baby

Over at In God’s Image, I share some thoughts on teaching healthy eating habits to kids and how I plan to deal with the piles of Halloween candy that have invaded our home. “Halloween and its association with sweets in excess is tough for a mom like me. As someone who has struggled with anRead the whole post >>

New Movement Gives Unborn Babies a Voice

Forgive me for putting on my PR hat, but this news release was recently passed along to me and I felt it deserved some attention: The “Undecided Voter” is typically used to describe a person who may still cast a vote either way in an upcoming election. It is Finished

After a four hour wait (yes, four hours!), I cast my vote during Georgia’s advanced voting today. While waiting in the interminable line, I read a book, briefly chatted with my mom, and I prayed. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
