All Saints’ Day Party

As a cradle Catholic, I’m a collector and admirer of saints. I have an envelope brimming with holy cards depicting these faithful followers of God, and I often turn to myriad saints during certain situations in my life. I’ve, of course, whispered a prayer to St. Anthony when I’ve lost something. I’ve prayed often toRead the whole post >>

My Nana

My 87-year-old nana, my dad’s mom, is the only grandmother I’ve ever known (my mom’s mom passed away when my mom was still in high school). When I think back on our relationship, there are many memories – some fuzzy recollections, others vivid recounts of moments we’ve shared. I vaguely remember baths in my nana’sRead the whole post >>

Sweetest Day

Hallmark was made for women like my mom. She is total a holiday freak. She welcomes any excuse to celebrate and to send warm wishes to a loved one. Growing up, we got cards for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and even Sweetest Day (What the heck is Sweetest Day? you might be asking. I’ll tell youRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
