Cast Your Votes!

No, I’m not talking about the heated race for the office of President of the United States, though we all ought to be praying for the political candidates and discerning whom we should vote for in the primaries and come November. Still, the ballot I’m referring to here does require some earnest deliberation, if youRead the whole post >>

A Lenten Fortune

For every day of Lent I choose a “Lenten Fortune” out of a container that looks like a box for Chinese take-out. Each slip of white paper includes a faith exercise. My Familia team leaders gave me the box filled with “fortunes” as a way to make my Lent more fruitful. Many of the fortunesRead the whole post >>

Jesus, The Thirst Quencher

This Sunday, we’ll be hearing about Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well (John 4: 5-42). I’ve always liked this reading. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
