Worst Mommy Day Ever

I hit an all-time low today as a mom. If there was such a thing as the “Worst Mommy Hall of Fame,” I’d be a front runner for membership. The day started out okay. We went on a walk with a friend. Madeline complained a bit about her bottom hurting. She was whiny, my little,Read the whole post >>

Please Stay Tuned…

I promise I’ll be updating this blog more as we get more settled into our foursome. Like most new moms, I’ve been operating on very little sleep. Madeline still wakes up after three hours and often fights going to sleep at bedtime for a couple of hours. Rae is a sleeper – she seems toRead the whole post >>

Living Up to my Worthy Calling

“I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love…” (Ephesians 4:1-2) Being a loving, Catholic wife is my calling, but I’m not sure I always live in a “manner worthyRead the whole post >>

What I Did Today… Friday, April 20: PART II

PART II: What I Did Today… The day is halfway over, so I thought I’d break up this never-ending blog. 12:02 p.m.: Maddy is all ready, but I’m still naked except for a towel turban adorning my head. 12:06 p.m.: I have on shorts, underwear and a bra. Still no shirt, but we’re making progress.Read the whole post >>

What I Did Today… Friday, April 20

So I decided it would be interesting to keep a log of what I did during a typical day in my life. Only, the day turned out to be anything but typical. In fact, as I read back over my notes, I’m almost chickened out. I thought, “I can’t share this day with the world.Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
