And the living is {very} easy…

What’s not to like about life when you’re reading The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun on the beach while your husband sits beside you keeping his eye on happy kids frolicking in the waves?Read the whole post >>

A not so peaceful way to start Lent & a repost of Lenten resources because I’m too lazy to write a new one

Below, you’ll find  a re-post from two years ago that includes all sorts of Lenten resources. Forgive me if some of the links are bogus. I started to click on each one to check them, but then Mary Elizabeth and Thomas started fighting over whose turn it was to play (destroy) Daddy’s guitar. If youRead the whole post >>

When you don’t have to choose your Lenten sacrifice

I know everyone, or at least a lot of my most loyal remnant who have managed to stick around to read my sporadic ramblings here on this sorely-neglected blog, are probably sick of my whining about my running injury, but I need some catharsis today. Feel free to click away from here if you’re overRead the whole post >>

Peanut Gallery

On Saturday the course of a 5K went right past our house. Since I’ve gained considerable skills as a race cheerleader in the aftermath of my dreadful hamstring injury, I rallied the troops (three out of four kids and the dog; my oldest was having a special sleepover with the grandparents before soccer season kicksRead the whole post >>

If you love your body and yourself and have never been on a diet or a juice cleanse, then this post probably isn’t for you

February is winding down, so that means that a whole bunch of people are either pumping their fists in triumph for making progress on their New Year’s Resolutions or slumping in despair. Now I’m well aware plenty of people make resolutions that don’t have anything to do with their weight or how healthy they’re eating,Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
