Randomness

I missed Jen’s Quick Takes yesterday, but I’m going to indulge in some tardy randomness. Madeline makes her big stage debut later today as Narrator 1 in a gripping performance of The Enormous Turnip. I tried to convince the grandparents that they really didn’t need to drive an hour to see her on the stageRead the whole post >>

What Does it Mean to Really Be Pro-Life?

Along with a lot of Internet surfers, I recently read this honest and poignant post about a mom who found herself in a “crisis” pregnancy that ended up giving her not only a new life in the form of a baby but a new life to live. (Her follow-up post about why offering a woman’sRead the whole post >>

An Apology to My Email & Feed Subscribers

Some of you may have noticed that ever since I migrated from Blogger to WordPress, I’ve been having serious issues with my feed. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
