A New Beginning

For several months now, I’d been considering giving my blog a complete face lift. Now I’ve done it. It’s a new look and a new name and while I love it, I’m still getting use to it. I imagine it will take some of my more loyal readers some time to get acquainted with theRead the whole post >>

Let’s Talk

On Thursday I had the honor of chatting with Danielle Bean and Elizabeth Foss on the Faith & Family LIVE! podcast. We discussed making friends, and I confessed my own insecurities and hangups about meeting new friends in my new community. I didn’t mention too much that a big part of the reason I haven’tRead the whole post >>

Dear Mary Elizabeth, Happy birthday! Two years old – wow! Words Made Flesh: Mom’s Day Away

My mind’s all jumble mostly because there’s so muchRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
