Love is in the Air(Waves)

Yesterday I had the opportunity to chat with Elizabeth and Lisa on the Faith & Famly Podcast. It was an episode all about love and marriage just in time for Valentine’s Day. Elizabeth shares how she makes these delicious-looking Valentine’s Dots with her kids (yum and so pretty!). And I come off sounding like aRead the whole post >>

Tea Time

On Friday, the older girls and I took Gaba to the Baron York Tea Room. It was an enchanting and delicious afternoon. Our only regret is that the lovely and quaint tea room will be closing its doors after February 15th. We were hoping to make a formal tea an annual tradition. The good newsRead the whole post >>

Argh! Pirate Birthday Party Fun

Last weekend we celebrated Madeline’s sixth birthday with friends and family. Sometime last year she became obsessed with pirates and the idea of searching for lost treasure. So it came as no big surprise when she requested a pirate-themed birthday bash. She had only two requests for the party: 1. That we have a treasureRead the whole post >>

To My Big Girl

Dear Madeline, I’ve been writing birthday letters to you and your sisters every year, and you’d think these sentimental snippets would get easier as you grew and started doing more interesting stuff than just babbling, toddling about, and excreting, but it’s tough to sum up what you mean to me as you grow older, biggerRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
