This is What Hope Looks Like

And most of all, it looks like this: His name is Thomas (he’s the one with the white t-shirt thrown over his shoulder), but he often answers to T-Dog. He’s my 16-year-old cousin who wears a Nike hat with the words “LIVESTRONG” imprinted on it. And that is what he does every day: He livesRead the whole post >>

Nineteenth Day of Advent

Make a donation to your favorite charity. Ask older kids if they would like to make a donation as well. One of my family’s favorite worthy causes is Food for the Poor. Another wonderful charity that would be fitting to give to as we prepare for Christ’s birth is the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem,Read the whole post >>

Letting Bethlehem Babies Know It’s Christmas

We all know the story of the Nativity. Mary and Joseph, exhausted from an arduous journey, sought shelter for the night. Yet, everywhere they turned, they were told the same thing: “There is no room.” Until finally Mary could wait no longer and gave birth to love’s pure light, the Savior of the World andRead the whole post >>

Elves From Catie

This is a recycled post about a tradition and charity that’s worth mentioning again. Please consider supporting Elves from Catie and donate an elf to a child in the hospital this holiday season. Support a Worthy Cause – Host An Elf in Your Home this Christmas!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
