Announcing the Patron Saint of…

In honor of All Saints’ Day, I share with you a recent conversation among the Wicker girls. Me: You know, if we all really love God and try to be really good people, we just might be saints someday. 3-year-old: Weally?Me: Really. 3-year-old: But what would I be the saint of? 5-year-old: You could beRead the whole post >>

{this moment} Jumping for Joy – Literally

(Yes, this post popped in to make an appearance earlier than I thought I’d scheduled it. I don’t know why I try to schedule things ahead of time because I continually goof up. What day of the week is it? It’s the year 2010, right?) {this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo –Read the whole post >>

One of these days I’m really going to miss those frog legs.    {this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you’re inspired to do the same, visit SoulemamaRead the whole post >>

A Therapeutic Rant

I’m still working on organizing my photos and thoughts from my trip last week. Stay tuned…  I’m also still trying to catch up on laundry. One week of it piling up has left me buried beneath an overwhelming mound. (The kids love it – what fun to hide in all the dirty socks and underwear!)Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.

“She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.”

―Flannery O'Connor
