Fifty Days of Feasting

Easter blessings to you all. Alleluia! I hope to share more thoughts on my Holy Week and Easter weekend, but a nasty cold and the nearly constant ministration to a sick toddler who only wants mama has left me feeling like a Mack truck rolled right over me.  Truthfully, I haven’t been in the bestRead the whole post >>

Celebrating the Easter Season with Children

The Easter season is one of my favorite times of year. Spring has lavished the trees and the earth with blossoms. Easter lavishes our souls with the hope of promises kept and new beginnings. Easter is also a season that lasts 50 days. That’s right – 50 days!  So don’t store those Easter decorations awayRead the whole post >>

Children, Our Easter People

Marjorie Campbell, an author, a writer for Inside Catholic and Phases of Womanhood, and a treasured e-friend of mine shared with me an excerpt from a beautiful Easter homily that Father Ramelo Somer delivered in a small parish in Kauai. Because it put into words the meaning and hope behind Easter so eloquently, I share it hereRead the whole post >>

What are Your Easter Sunday Brunch Traditions?

Yup. That’s right. I’m already thinking about Easter, and it’s not even Advent season yet. Penance, Suffering, and New Life

There’s nothing like a pregnancy completely planned by God instead of me, bed rest, and giving birth to a new baby on Palm Sunday to make for a more meaningful Lent and Easter. At long last after 40 days of fasting and penance, I now have 50 days to celebrate our Lord’s victory over theRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
