Opposites and Authors

I had the opportunity to chat with Danielle Bean and Lisa Hendey on the most recent Faith & Family Podcast. We chatted about whether or not opposites attract in our own marriages as well as divulged what we’ve been reading and what books we plan to crack open during Lent. Join the conversation here. Resources for Lent

Subtitled: An Obnoxiously Long But Hopefully Somewhat Helpful Post It’s late this year, but somehow Lent is still sneaking up on me. I’ve just recently been combing through online resources, notes, files, and books to come up with a plan to celebrate this meaningful Lenten season. I thought I’d share a few resources, ideas, etc.Read the whole post >>

Lessons from an Internet Fast

As some of my regular readers might recall, I kicked off Lent this year with an Internet fast. It lasted a little over one week, although it wasn’t a true fast since I did permit myself a daily email check. For several days, however, I went completely unplugged (no email, no fidgeting with iPhone apps,Read the whole post >>

Homemade Pretzels

We recently made our first batch of homemade pretzels. I used this recipe, but I substituted one cup of whole wheat flour. The dough was a bit salty for my liking, so I may try an alternate recipe next year. However, overall I was pleased with the activity and so were the girls. Before weRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
