Meatless Monday: Papa’s Oven Fried Fish

My Papa believed that the way to everyone’s heart was through their stomach. When he passed away almost two years ago, an aunt of mine made copies of all his favorite recipes and distributed them to the family. On this edition of Meatless Monday, I share a popular dish from his collection.Papa’s Oven Fried FishRead the whole post >>

New Column: Lenten Inspiration for Moms

Here’s an excerpt from “Christ’s Journey to the Cross: Lenten Inspiration for Mothers,” a column that I originally wrote for Canticle that’s now “live” at Catholic Mom and Catholic Exchange: [Jesus] could have given far less; one drop of his blood could have saved us all. Yet, he freely chose to shed every last bitRead the whole post >>

Meatless Monday: Tofu Parmesan

Welcome to another Meatless Monday installment. Sorry, folks, but I had to include at least one main dish with tofu. Word to the Wise: Taking on New Life

During my most recent confession, I lamented that I’ve already goofed up on some of my Lenten resolutions. The priest, God bless him, proceeded to remind me that Lent isn’t so much about what we give up but what we take on. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
