Regret Having Kids? Never!

Karen Edmisten recently wrote a beautiful post outlining 40 reasons to have kids. She wrote the blog in response to Corinne Maier, a French writer and mom of two children who readily admits (to the world) in a published book that she regrets having children. I read an article about her here and at firstRead the whole post >>

In Search of the Great Pumpkin

We went to a pumpkin patch on Saturday in search of our own “Great Pumpkin,” which we eventually found with the help of Uncle Josh. Madeline shows her super-human preschool strength by picking up the first pumpkin she sees. Giddy up! Madeline rides her trusty steed, Red, with the help of Papa. One day I’llRead the whole post >>

Say Cheese!

I’ve had some requests to post some recent pictures of the girls, so here goes… Rachel Marie is 4 months now and has the most delightful disposition. She’s easy-going and very smiley. Our little fashionista playing dress-up with clothes my Aunt Jeanne and cousin Lilly sent us. Sisterly love…

Maine Photos

As previously mentioned, here are some photos from our trip to Maine. A view of Camp Loseekum, where we stayed, from a boat out on Lake Thompson As GG (Dave’s grandmother and our girls’ great grandmother) has been known to say, “Dog kisses are an acquired taste.” Clearly, Madeline doesn’t have much of a distinguishedRead the whole post >>

Nursing Champ

The next time I feel like a nonstop milk machine I just need to take a look at this picture of a fellow devoted, nursing mother. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
