7 Quick Takes (I have no idea what volume I’m on)

I’ve been playing hooky on 7 Quick Takes Fridays, mainly because extracting seven semi-witty things from my gray-sludge-of-a-brain since giving birth to my third child has become next to impossible. But here I am again. Not because I’m feeling particularly witty, so go ahead and lower your expectations right now. It’s just that Jen’s gotRead the whole post >>

Nothing But the White House’s Version of Truth

I am a fishy American. Are you? Honestly, don’t you find it disturbing regardless of your personal opinions of the proposed health care reform that the White House has posted this on its website: “Since we can’t keep track of all of them [so-called “scary chain emails and videos,” rumors and other misleading info aboutRead the whole post >>

It’s Not About My Personal Bottom Line

Here’s my response (for better or worse) to this comment after this post: “That would be sad for you … I mean millions of uninsured Americans would have access healthcare, and middle class families could actually afford their bills… but if controlling the out-of-control medical industry means that your husband has to take a pay-cut,Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
