Word to the Wise: On Atlas Shrugged Coming True

“Word to the Wise” is a new regular series of posts I’m starting on my blog. Here I’ll share quotes that often translate into good advice (for me, anyway) or simply offer food for thought. Their genesis will vary as will their topics. I should mention that Happy Catholic’s popular Well Said posts have inspiredRead the whole post >>

Did You Watch the Inauguration?

We did. Since we now have cable television for the first time in almost two years (just got it last Thursday), we gathered in our living room to observe this historic moment. Dave is doing research for the next week, so he was able to be a spectator right along with me. So were theRead the whole post >>

FOCA Novena Begins Today

From my email inbox: “If you’re against abortion, then there’s bad news on the horizon. For those of you who do not know, the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is the next sick chapter in the book of abortion. If signed into, law then all limitations on abortion will be lifted which will result inRead the whole post >>

We Interrupt this Mom Blog to Show Our Support for Saxby Chambliss

If you’re not a Georgia resident, there’s nothing you can do other than pray for a victory for Saxby Chambliss in the Georgia runoff election scheduled for December 2nd. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
