Oops. I Did It Again.

I really hate Blogger sometimes (good thing I’ll soon be getting a blog makeover and won’t have to deal with it anymore). I had a post all scheduled that I hadn’t even spell checked yet. I went to read it and somehow it got possessed and poof! It was out there. Ugh. So don’t readRead the whole post >>

Argh!

Do you ever mean to schedule a post and not publish it, but it for some reason publishes? That just happened to me. I deleted the “on the move” post because we’re not quite on the move yet. It won’t be showing up on my blog until Monday or so. However, the post remains inRead the whole post >>

Some Further Thoughts on Feminism, Motherhood, and Having It All

I recently wrote a column for Inside Catholic that pointed a finger at certain schools of feminist thought for making women feel like less instead of more. The article sparked an interesting dialogue (some of the comments took issue with the column) and has prompted further thoughts from me. One of the many challenges ofRead the whole post >>

The Black Hole of Cyberspace

I’m thinking really deep thoughts today. For instance, where do all the lost emails go? Are they hanging out with all my baby’s missing socks? It’s Not About My Personal Bottom Line

Here’s my response (for better or worse) to this comment after this post: “That would be sad for you … I mean millions of uninsured Americans would have access healthcare, and middle class families could actually afford their bills… but if controlling the out-of-control medical industry means that your husband has to take a pay-cut,Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
