A Few Things (Including a Discourse on Attachment Parenting)

Catholic Carnival #179: The latest edition of Catholic Carnival is posted at Building An Ark. It has a “Swimming Lesson” theme (it’s a very creative and well-done compilation) and is filled with some great stuff. Don’t miss it. New Name, Same Mission: You may have noticed that my blog header now reads “Momopoly.” I’d actuallyRead the whole post >>

Weaning Mommy

Love hurts, especially when you’re trying to nurse a baby who keeps biting you. For the past two days my baby Rae has refused my breast. She either pushes it away or gives me a quick (and painful) nip. This doesn’t stop me from trying to offer it to her. I’m like a lovesick teenagerRead the whole post >>

Declaring a Mommy Truce

I read this post (by way of Danielle Bean) at Arwen/Elizabeth, a beauty of a blog I just discovered and it inspired me to write this: I’m a card-carrying member of the Freak Mom Club. See, I nursed Madeline until she was 22 months and would have kept on nursing had I not been ableRead the whole post >>

A Sigh of Relief

Looks like moms everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief if their baby is found licking a big sibling’s peanut butter-clad hands. From a recent Medscape article Nana, my mom-in-law/lactation consultant, sent me: “If you’re going to have a peanut allergy, it has nothing to do with when you were introduced to peanuts. You can find the rest here. This article really hit home with me.Read the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
