Writing and Faith

My mom gave me a subscription to Living Faith as a gift. I always enjoy the daily Catholic devotions based on the day’s readings, but some speak to me more than others. Amy Welborn wrote a devotional back in August that really hit home with me as a writer and a woman trying to liveRead the whole post >>

Hearing God’s Voice

The other day I was in the bathroom trying to – surprise! – use the bathroom with some semblance of privacy. This is just one of the things you take for granted before becoming a mom of little ones. First, the baby crawled over to me and pulled up on my legs. “Gaga. Dada. Ba-ba-baaaaaa,”Read the whole post >>

Thank You!

I can’t possibly begin to personally thank all of the men and women who have reached out, shown their support of my InsideCatholic article, and given me a cyber pat on the back. Your emails, blog posts, phone calls, kindness, and prayers have meant a great deal to me. Thank you. I do want toRead the whole post >>

One of Those Days

You know you’re having one of those days when: You wake up at 2 AMish to hear the sound of your husband dry heaving in the bathroom, sick with the virulent virus you thought had miraculously bypassed your house for the first time in three years. My dad was recently waiting for my mom to get her blood drawn when a woman sat down beside him and asked, “How long’s the wait?” “I’m not sure, but we’ve been here awhile,” he told her. “Well, I don’t think I’m going to wait. I just got some really bad news. I have pancreaticRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
