Here’s to a Healthy Soul!

Chances are, Santa Claus isn’t the only one carrying around extra weight this time of year. With the feeding frenzy that begins by way of Thanksgiving and doesn’t taper off until the bubbles in our New Year’s champagne stop fizzing, some of us get more than we wish for over Yuletide season. It’s no wonderRead the whole post >>

Counting My Blessings

I decided to practice an exercise in gratitude by listing every thing I’m thankful for that pops into my mind in a span of ten minutes. Now a few caveats: First, these are not listed in order of importance, considering fruit comes before dark chocolate and that Mary is number 36 on my blessing inventory.Read the whole post >>

Thanks be to God!

As Christians, we’re called to regularly give thanks to God in our prayer life. However, I too often offer up needy supplications that have more to do with what I don’t have than all that I am blessed with – from my good health and family to smaller but definitely gratitude-worthy things like a hiddenRead the whole post >>

Wisdom From Gaba

My mom, also known as Gaba to the grandchildren, is a wise, wise woman. Recently, she sent me an email in response to my blog entries revolving around my “horrible-no-good” mommy day. There have been times in my life when my faith overwhelms me. Some days I can look at a Crucifix and feel so close to Christ that my body trembles and my eyes brim with tears. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
