Thank You!

Things have been crazy around here. Last week I was nursing sick kids back to health (nothing serious – just the sniffles and the crankies). We had old friends over for dinner last Friday. It was our first time entertaining in our new home, and it went well. Then on Saturday we went to anotherRead the whole post >>

Howler Monkeys, Prayers About Poop, and Amazing Grace

Young children belong at Mass. They should be invited to worship and always be welcomed by the Body of Christ, not just on their Baptismal Day or when they’re old enough to understand the Eucharist (at what age does that exactly happen anyway? Does anyone ever fully understand the Eucharist?). I believe all of thisRead the whole post >>

The Whole Story

In my last post, I mentioned Madeline’s persistent fever. What I didn’t bring up is how concerned I was starting to become. My little, hopping cricket was no longer hopping. She was sleeping. All. Of. The. Time. As soon as I thought her fever had broken, it would return. She’d start to cry and wouldRead the whole post >>

If You’re Happy and You (Should) Know It

This is how I had everything played out in my head. While my husband was across the country attending a conference for his new job, I would nest. Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
