Dating My Husband

This past weekend my husband and I had the opportunity to enjoy a weekend retreat sans kids. During this babymoon of sorts, I read two books, slept more consecutive hours in two nights than I usually sleep in about three, and most importantly, had time to hop off the mommy track and enjoy my roleRead the whole post >>

Mixed Marriage Final Tips (For Now)

It’s been some time since I’ve revisited this topic near and dear to my heart, but I did have two final “tips” I’ve been wanting to throw out there. You can view the other posts in my mixed marriage series here. The series is for couples who may not share a unity of faith andRead the whole post >>

Why My Husband and I Still Date

I don’t blog about my husband much, mainly because he’s a really private person and would be the last person in the universe to start a personal blog or to start following others’ blogs. Why I Love Date Nights

• We get to go out to eat and leisurely explore delicious and varied gastronomy. On tonight’s menu was Greek food: salty cubes of feta, creamy hummus, olive tapenade, tasty falafel dipped in tzatziki sauce, and rich, sweet baklava for dessert. • We can talk about adult things and don’t have to spell things weRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
