Seven Quick Takes

I can’t resist. I’m jumping on Jen’s “7 Quick Takes” bandwagon at least for this Friday. I used to try to write at least one somewhat cerebral post a week, but it’s just not happening right now. (See take numero dos and you’ll see that two little ones are quite possible sucking the brain cellsRead the whole post >>

I Get No Kick From Champagne…

…especially as a dry preggo, but oh, how our family got a kick out of our baby’s 20-week ultrasound. “Your baby looks perfect,” the doctor told us. And she did. I’ve never had such a clear ultrasound. We saw her tiny foot kung-ku kick toward us. We could see the baby’s eyes open and close,Read the whole post >>

More on the Name Game

I had so much fun reading about everyone’s baby name stories from this post. I also enjoyed playing around with some baby name tools a few of you shared like Nymbler (thanks, Kate). Nymbler allows you to type in names that inspire you (like the names of your current children) and then it generates aRead the whole post >>

Growing Pains

This post was originally published over at In God’s Image, a blog that explores the intersection of faith and fitness. If you’re looking for more ways to love the body that’s made in God’s image, not the media’s, then be sure to check out this positive body image blog. I’m almost 20-weeks pregnant with myRead the whole post >>

The Name Game

Madeline loves to name things. She named her handpicked pumpkin Elizabeth. She has a smorgasbord of imaginary friends (some are half-animal; others are simply little girls) that she thoughtfully branded as Feezy, Lassie, and Lucy (to name a few; I can’t keep up with all of her “friends.”). She’s also taken it upon herself toRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
