FOCA Novena Begins Today

From my email inbox: “If you’re against abortion, then there’s bad news on the horizon. For those of you who do not know, the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is the next sick chapter in the book of abortion. If signed into, law then all limitations on abortion will be lifted which will result inRead the whole post >>

Diane Tandy Still in Practice!

I frequently mention my “amazing Catholic certified nurse midwife” on this blog, and last spring I posted a brief tribute here after writing an article about her and her pro-life work for Canticle magazine. Well, this evening I received an email from a fellow mom and patient of Diane’s asking for my help. Diane isRead the whole post >>

Letting Bethlehem Babies Know It’s Christmas

We all know the story of the Nativity. Mary and Joseph, exhausted from an arduous journey, sought shelter for the night. Yet, everywhere they turned, they were told the same thing: “There is no room.” Until finally Mary could wait no longer and gave birth to love’s pure light, the Savior of the World andRead the whole post >>

New Movement Gives Unborn Babies a Voice

Babies are Never Disappointments

Madeline wants a baby brother. She’s made it pretty clear. Not that she wouldn’t be happy with another little sister. I recently asked her if she’d be disappointed if we have another baby girl. To which my little pro-lifer responded, “I’d never be disappointed about a baby.”

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
