Lenten Clicking

Lent really crept up on me this year. Fortunately, I have a stockpile of resources to help my family and me along my Lenten journey. In lieu of a thought-provoking post, I’m simply going to list some resources, ideas, books, etc. I’ve used in the past, plan to use, or dream of using whenRead the whole post >>

An Advent Tea

Yesterday the girls and I hosted our inaugural Advent tea. We opened our home – and our hearts – to some of our good homeschooling friends, including one who traveled over an hour to be with us. I could not have asked for a more perfect day. We ended up having 13 ladies join us,Read the whole post >>

7 Quick Takes: The Extreme Introvert, Rotten Pumpkin, & Holiday Masochist Edition

— 1 — So my postpartum mood had been pretty placid – even chirpy – until recently. Over the past few weeks, I’ve morph into a weepy psycho. My poor babysitter showed up on Wednesday, and I burst into tears and told her how I’ve ruined my children and that she’s the only adult I’veRead the whole post >>

Babymoons, Evangelizing through New Media, & Pumpkin Chocolate Chunk Scones

I recently joined the Faith & Family Podcast for the first time since giving birth to Thomas. It’s hard to believe our little dude will be six weeks tomorrow. Danielle Bean, Lisa Hendey, and I dished about babymoons, the importance of taking care of yourself especially during stressful periods, and evangelizing through new media. ItRead the whole post >>

Princess Ballerina Party Details

I recently wrote a letter to my 4-year-old birthday girl, and we actually had her family party a little over a week ago, but I’m just getting around to sharing party details. When I told Rae we’d be having a little family birthday shindig and that she could pick a theme for it, she immediatelyRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
