Seeking Silence

Today is the last day I’ll have comments open on my blog until after Easter. This also marks the final post before I begin an Internet fast that I have committed to for at least the next week. To clarify, I will be fasting from all websites and blogs and will only check my emailRead the whole post >>

Living Lent by the Beatitudes

Thanks to Katie over at Kitchen Stewardship for hosting a Lenten Carnival. Share your plans for Lent here. Lent will be here in one week. Considering I never even got around to jotting down any New Year’s Resolutions this year, it’s a miracle I’ve started to come up with a plan for Lent. Avoiding aRead the whole post >>

Plan B*

As my readers know, I was really looking forward to making it to confession today. I arrived early, so I’d be one of the first folks in line. Then I waited. And waited. Just a few months earlier I’d driven one hour to my parents’ house, so they could watch my girls while I wentRead the whole post >>

When Necessary Use Words

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
