The 10-Minute Writing Challenge

I recently discovered a gem of a website (by way of Jen at “Et Tu?”, the same spot where I discover many, many other “gems”). The 10 Minute Writer is the perfect hangout for moms who write or any scribe who’s short on time. Its creator and author Kathy Grub, a busy homeschooling mom ofRead the whole post >>

CNMC Part I: Tips for Bloggers/Podcasters

I was blessed to be able to attend the Catholic New Media Celebration(CNMC) this past Sunday since it all unfolded just a hop and a skip away from my home and because my knight in shining armor stepped up to the plate despite being post-call. The Celebration gave me a chance to put faces withRead the whole post >>

Write What You WANT to Know

For all you writers out there, here are some more thoughts on the business of writing. One of the cardinal rules of writing you’ll discover as soon as start reading some of the popular “how to get published” books is to write what you know. I Don’t Always Get to Write What I Want But…

Welcome to Writing 101. Okay, so I’m really not that organized, but per this previous post, here’s my first installment for all you writers out there. Enjoy! Preface Here, I’m going to share something I wrote a few years back for Writers Weekly (a great, free e-newsletter for writers, by the way) that I stillRead the whole post >>

Calling All Writers

From time to time I get an email from someone who is trying to start a freelance writing career asking me for advice. I’m always humbled by these emails. I don’t really consider myself an expert in anything, except maybe negotiating with a 3-year-old and convincing her that everyone poops and it’s good for herRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
