Huh?

I was just perusing my Sitemeter statistics because the kids and Daddy are asleep already (Dad’s working nights and has to go into the hospital in a couple of hours) and saw an odd and wee bit disturbing referral for my blog.

Please someone help explain to me why when a person Googles “lick my hemorrhoid” does my blog come up? I know I mentioned that I have pregnancy-related hemorrhoids (why oh why?) in my Seven Quick Takes earlier today, but I said nothing about licking them. A reasonable follow-up question, of course, is why on earth someone would Google “lick my hemorrhoid” to begin with?

I think it’s time I stepped away from the computer and started my evening prayers.

Maybe they don’t mean physically lick. Maybe they mean lick as in licking a bad habit. Or is that kick? I think I have heard lick used in that way, too. I really hope that’s what they mean, because that is extremely gross.

I had the same thought as Juli – “lick” as in “beat”, “get rid of”, etc. Give them the benefit of the doubt??

    lol that is so funny.

I remember when someone came to my site from googling christmas recipes for dummies. I wrote about it on my blog and my then 12 year old was absolutely mortified that I would tell people that. I think she thought I was calling myself a dummy.

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
