Fairy Dust

Madeline gave a whole new meaning to the term “fairy dust” when she recently told me this:

“I have a feeling that fairies are real. You know when you see that stuff floating in the air by a window? You might think it’s dust, but it’s really fairies flying around.”

Only a child would find magic in dust.

Madeline and I must be related, because I tell myself the same thing when I see the fairy dust too – haha!! It's that sounds so much better that way…hehe!

    Yes…. that's why I haven't gotten around to dusting… I can't disturb the fairy dust!

I love this post… I wish grown-ups had the same innocense and imagination as children. Would the world be a better place?

Give her a dust rag and tell her to go around the house "collecting" all the fairy dust. Then, let her shake it outside to let all the fairies go.

Oh, Kris. You're good. I'll definitely be using that magic of yours in the future.

So very sweet! Bella believed that the cottonwood puffs floating by outside of the car window were fairies. Oh, to believe in magic again…

Very sweet. We haven't really discovered fairies yet.

I love how kids color our world with their imaginations! I'm really enjoying my 5-year-old's vivid imagination right now. He's my youngest of five and I am cherishing it as much as possible. It doesn't stay this vibrant forever. :)

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
