Guest Blogging Over at Conversion Diary

Today I’m over at Jen’s spot – yes, the Jennifer Fulwiler, uber blogger and founder of Conversion Diary. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the word “daily” in the Our Father. (Thanks for having me, Jen!)

Incredibly, I somehow managed to marble poop into a post about grace, prayer, and filial trust in God.

Oh, and I wrote that post long before our Painted Ladies emerged and took flight.

This is the perfect word – daily, not poop – for me lately because as a mom to a Tae Bo master in utero, a 6-year-old Energizer Bunny, a preschooler, and a Todzilla, I’ve really had to just focus on getting through the day, recognizing and relying on daily graces, and trusting that God – only God – will get me through this exhausting time in my life. (As I’ve recently started my third trimester, I’m both excited and terrified at the prospect of adding another little one to my brood.)

Hope to see you over there, and I’d love to hear what “daily” means to you.

p.s. Ahem, it was Jennifer who wrote the AMAZING foreword for Weightless.

What a beautiful reflection you wrote for Conversion Diary! Children and nature are two wonderful sources for reminders of how to hope in the Lord, have faith like a child, experience new growth, and marvel at all God has made. I love the caterpillar into butterfly analogy. Reading the non-fiction book When the Heart Waits: Spiritual Direction for Life’s Sacred Questions by Sue Monk Kidd changed my way of thinking about dark spiritual times as being those periods in our lives when we are inside the cocoon or chrysalis. She talks about how we go through many chrysalis phases throughout our lives and how God knows just when we’re ready to emerge. I highly recommend the book and the practice of being open to getting “spiritual direction” from kids and nature!

Thank you so much for the book recommendation. I’m adding it to my wish list now! Blessings!

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
