Love Grows, But What About the Bed?

When I was pregnant with my second, I remember worrying and wondering how in the world I could possibly love another child as much as I loved my first.

Of course, I quickly learned that there’s plenty of love to go around.

Love doesn’t diminish when we welcome more children into our lives. It multiplies; it grows.

BUT, I might add, why-oh-why can’t the same thing be said about the square footage of my husband and my bed? :-)

It’s getting very crowded in there.

Totally unrelated: I have a new column up over at Faith & Family LIVE: “Kindness Is Contagious.” (Regular readers may recognize it as a slightly edited version of an old blog post.) See you over there!

My heart has been aching for more children for quite some time now. Looking at this picture just magnifies that longing! We have a queen sized bed now but I’m hoping someday to get a super duper king size!

We splurged on a King-sized bed when I was pregnant with my third but as you can see, things are still a little tight! :-) And very soon there will be another snuggly, little one in our home. Did I mention my husband is 6’3″? Not a small man. Oh, and our Lab-Great Dane mix (a big dog) used to try to sleep with us, too, but we had to get her a cozy bed on the floor. Thankfully, she’s been very understanding! :-)

LOL! That is what our bed has looked like for the last 13 years!

Yay! We are not alone! I just wrote about this on Friday. :)

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
