Hers: This fish sure has lived a long time.Mine: Uh. Yeah, it’s been like 16 hours since we welcomed it into our family.Hers (showing me a wilted weed): Look at this flower. Isn’t it beautiful? Mine: Well, it’s not a rose, but… Hers (as she throws open the curtains in our dining area): See! Oh,Read the whole post >>

The Par-tee!

We celebrated Baby Rae’s first birthday on Saturday with the grandparents. It was the perfect shindig. The only bummer is the birthday girl came down with a stomach bug that night and Mommy got to see all that cake and corn in a much less appetizing form in the wee hours of the morning. And They Lived Happily Ever After: A Tale of a Mixed Marriage

Preface: I don’t tell many people that my husband isn’t Catholic and a lot of people just assume he is because we go to Mass together, practice NFP, belong to a Catholic homeschool co-op, etc. In other words, we seem really “Catholic.” However, I recently mentioned the fact that Dave doesn’t share my faith inRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
