Super Bowl Recipes for People Who Actually Get to Watch the Big Game

Okay, Dave and I are probably some of the only Americans who won’t be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday. Why? Because we don’t have TV. Well, actually that’s not technically accurate. We have a mammoth flat screen TV ostensibly perched in the living room. It was a hand-me-down from my parents and the factRead the whole post >>

She Likes Me, She Really Likes Me!

I’m flattered and humbled to receive a blog reward from a writer and mom I admire. Thank you, Heidi, for this honor, and thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop by my blog and to encourage me as a Catholic, mom, and writer. Now for the “fine print”: The rules: Recipients ofRead the whole post >>

Happy Baptismal Day, Madeline!

Three years ago Madeline joined the Body of Christ (here she is pictured with her Gaba, my mom). So many parents make a big (and unnecessary) fuss over their kids’ birthdays. Admittedly, I have planned a family party each year for Madeline that includes presents, a fancy cake and a bit of festooning. Celebrating herRead the whole post >>

Hi, I’m Kate

I’m a wife, mom of five kids, writer, speaker, storyteller, bibliophile, runner, eating disorder survivor, and perfectionist in recovery. I'm the author of Getting Past Perfect: Finding Joy & Grace in the Messiness of Motherhood  and Weightless: Making Peace With Your Body.

I’ve tried a lot of things in my life – anorexia, bulimia, law school, teaching aerobics, extended breastfeeding, vegetarianism, trying to be perfect and failing miserably at it – and through it all I’ve been writing. And learning to embrace the messiness of life instead of covering it up, making excuses for it, or being ashamed of my brokenness or my home’s sticky counters.

Nowadays I’m striving every single, imperfect day to strike a balance between keeping it real and keeping it joyful.
