Support a Worthy Cause – Host An Elf in Your Home this Christmas!

I know of a family that has mischievous elves visit their house during the Christmas season. These rogue Santa helpers play silly and harmless pranks throughout the month of December. They might, for example, decorate the living room with toilet paper or leave a trail of cookie crumbs in the kitchen. I first learned aboutRead the whole post >>

Happy Advent!

Madeline has always loved this time of year. When she was only a little over a month old her first Christmas, I recall her being mesmerized by the tree’s twinkling lights. As a toddler she tore into presents and smiled when I crooned Christmas carols. Last year she delighted in the magic of the seasonRead the whole post >>

Thanksgiving Leftover Soup

My father-in-law gave me a tasty tip and I thought I’d share it with all of you busy moms out there. Throw all of your Turkey Day leftovers – I mean everything from the casseroles to the mashed potatoes swimming in butter and gravy – into a big pot. Add some chicken stock and letRead the whole post >>

In Need of Mom Quotes for Pregnancy Magazine Article

Time for a selfish plug: I’m working on an article for Pregnancy magazine on postpartum body surprises and need some mom quotes. Hi, I’m Kate

I'm the author of two nonfiction books Getting Past Perfect and Weightless, a storyteller*, overthinker, eating disorder survivor, mom of five, book junkie, socially awkward nerd as well as a speaker (so basically a walking and talking contradiction), and a perfectionist in recovery.

I am currently working towards my MFA in Fiction at Warren Wilson. Thank you to everyone who has read my drafts, offered feedback, and cheered me on. The writing life is often solitary, but I wouldn’t be here without a community of support.
